The Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies was founded in 2004 when five departments at the Faculty of Humanities were merged into one. Today the department comprises the eight following sections that all have their own separate academic profiles.
Carsten Niebuhr Department consists of seven minor subjects: Arabic, Hebrew, Near Eastern Archaeology, Persian, Turkish and Egyptology. All have in common that they deal with the Middle and the Students are known to belong among the best in the Humanities Department of the University.
The aim of the programme is that students are able to read and understand original texts and to translate from the language studied for to Danish. Also the reasonable ability to translate from Danish to the studied language and that student can free communicate in the studied language. To be admitted to the Master program in Middle Eastern Language and Society, students must have passed the bachelor's degree in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian or Turkish.
Turkish Studies Programme:
The Programme is designed that Student have the ability to read and write in Turkish. Furthermore to familiarize students with the spectrum of Turkish Studies including historical, literary and religious topics and the historical development of the discipline.
