The Department of East Asian Languages of the Institute of Philology and Language Communication Siberian Federal University is a leading University unit that implements the task of training in the field of Oriental Philology.
Being an exclusive specialty of several major universities of Russia in the 1990-s, Oriental Studies has turned into one of the most widely available and popular fields of higher education, especially in Siberia and the Russian Far East. Demands of our society and new strict requirements for the specialists in Oriental Studies are mainly determined by the changes in local conditions (an increased flow of immigrants from Asia, especially China, combined with a gradual change of reasons, which make them come here), by geopolitical strategies of our country, a more active role of Russia in the Pacific Rim (for example, its involvement in the activities of the SCO), strategies of foreign-economic activity of Krasnoyarsk, the Krasnoyarsk Krai and Siberia in general. Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Turkish are active languages of the international communication.
More than one and a half billion people all over the world speak these languages. These people live in the countries that maintain neighbourly relationship and strategic partnership with Krasnoyarsk, the Krasnoyarsk Krai and Russia. All these factors underlie the necessity to solve new tasks aimed at educating and reeducating new professionals in the Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Turkish languages.
